EIA FOR LAFARGEHOLCIM ASHAKACEM COAL FIRED POWER PLANT (CPP)

Ashawa Consults Ltd. were commissioned to carry out an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study for Lafarge AshakaCem Coal-Powered Plant in Gombe state, 2015. The objectives for this EIA were:

  • To satisfy local, state, federal, and international rules and regulations on environmental issues relating to Energy projects.
  • Acquire Baseline data of the environment as well as the socio-economic and health conditions around the facility and host communities.
  • Identify the environmental sensitivities of the study area.
  • Assess the environmental cost and benefits of the project to the community likely to be affected by the proposed project.

EMP OF ASHAKACEM COAL-FIRED POWER – 2017

The project which was completed in September 2017, was an EMP conducted for AshakaCem’s 16 MW Coal-fired Power Plant (CPP) that is located within its existing premises in Gombe, Nigeria owned by Lafarge. This is in compliance with the statutory regulatory requirements for the approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the project. The plan comprehensively outlined the plan for the mitigation of potential and associated negative impacts resulting from the project and associated infrastructure throughout its lifecycle.

The objectives of this project included:

  • Effective identification and prediction of the potential adverse effects of the coal-fired power plant and ancillary operations;
  • Outlining specific actions considered necessary in mitigating the environmental impact of the project throughout its lifecycle;

Ensuring sustainable development through resource conservation, waste management and use of best technology for cleaner production.

BASELINE ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT FOR LAFARGE READY MIX PLANT ONNE, PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS STATE.

Lafarge Ready Mix Plant, Onne, Rivers State is a subsidiary of Lafarge Ready Mix Nigeria. It began operation in June 2014 in Rivers State’s Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT) facility where other industrial facilities are cited among which are the Port Harcourt Sea Port, Eni, Shell, Lafarge Atlas Cement etc.

This project is a baseline environmental audit of the Lafarge Ready Mix Plant Onne, in Rivers State. It reviewed the environmental management system in place and recommended best practices for such a facility in Nigeria.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT (EIA) FOR LAFARGE AFRICA PLC (AJANAKU GRANITE) QUARRY

Mining is the extraction of minerals occurring naturally, such as coal, ores, crude oil, natural gas, and stones. Lafarge Africa plc through its arm of ReadyMix produces concrete solutions and its primary constituent is the granite stone. Proper exploitation of solid minerals creates development and improved quality of life through employment oppurtunities.

The completed project is situated at Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun state. The project occupies about 2 cadastral units (approx. 42 Hectare).

The EIA identifies and assess the impacts of the quarry operations on the environment and the social wellbeing of the communities near the quarry site, as well as identify the hazards caused, and ultimately, present measures to reduce such impacts on the environment and communities.
