The project which was completed in September 2017, was an EMP conducted for AshakaCem’s 16 MW Coal-fired Power Plant (CPP) that is located within its existing premises in Gombe, Nigeria owned by Lafarge. This is in compliance with the statutory regulatory requirements for the approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the project. The plan comprehensively outlined the plan for the mitigation of potential and associated negative impacts resulting from the project and associated infrastructure throughout its lifecycle.
The objectives of this project included:
- Effective identification and prediction of the potential adverse effects of the coal-fired power plant and ancillary operations;
- Outlining specific actions considered necessary in mitigating the environmental impact of the project throughout its lifecycle;
Ensuring sustainable development through resource conservation, waste management and use of best technology for cleaner production.
