Environmental and Social Management Plan is a management tool/ procedure required for monitoring the environmental protection measures that are put in place to mitigate the occurrence of environmental, social, health and safety issues that could arise from the construction, operation, and decommissioning of a proposed project.
ESMP is a comprehensive guideline that directs/ ensures effective and responsible implementation and management of environmental and social impacts of a proposed project.
Mitigation, enhancement, and monitoring measures are developed for a project during the construction, operation, and closure phases.
The UNIDO document on ESMP, specifies the mitigation, adaptation, prevention, and management measures to which a Proponent shall be committed and shows how the Project will mobilize organizational capacity and resources to account for the factors evaluated to implement the compiled measures.
