Despite this, several companies are yet to take environmental sustainability any more serious than they had years ago. These companies have made no plans to adapt to their company activities and energy consumption to contribute less to global warming.

  1.                 THE WORLD DEPENDS ON THE HEALTH OF THE EARTH

Most of what we consume comes from nature. Food, clean water, pollination, and natural hazard protection are critical to the existence of mankind. When business activities damage the environment, the effects of the damaged environments soon reflect on businesses. Environmental degradation and climate change create unexpected risks in corporate value chains. Climate change has affected the availability of several natural resources especially water. Desertification has also reduced the available land for farming. Several countries now experience periodic droughts that has direct impact on their survival and that of their livestock. Companies can only survive when they have customers to patronize them. Thus supporting environmental sustainability is a wise businesses decision that can only fuel the growth of companies.

  1.                  GOVERNMENTS ARE GETTING MORE SERIOUS ABOUT PROTECTING THE WORLD

The Paris Climate Change Agreement signed by several countries in 2015 shows the commitments of governments towards ensuring businesses and other organizations become more steadfast in employing environmentally friendly strategies. This implies that businesses that disregard the influence of their activities on the environment stand the risk of legal wars with the government. Legal battles are usually costly and would ensure dent in the financials of businesses that could have been used to strengthen their companies.  This commitment of governments towards environmental sustainability has also influenced investors who look to limit the loss of their investments, thus putting their monies only in companies that agree with government directions.

  1. ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE COMPANIES ARE GAINING A COMPETITIVE EDGE

People now care more about the environment than before. Thus, companies that adapt environmental sustainability strategies in their policies now use it as a competitive edge over those that do not. Packages of products now include that they are environmentally friendly. Companies publicize their environmentally friendly activities on social media and other digital and traditional media. Eventually, companies that are not environmentally friendly would lose out as people would make buying decisions based on environmental sustainability. Companies also talk more about environmental sustainability when they speak to investors. Asides core company policies, a numbers of companies are also pushing the fronts for environmental sustainability through Corporate Social Responsibility.
